The Hammond-Harwood House is also known as the Jewel of Annapolis. The house is located at 19 Maryland Avenue in downtown Annapolis. History wise, the origins of the home are extensive, and can be found on their website here.
The Museum serves as a preservation of the greatest period of time in Annapolis. They offer different types of tours, like one unique one called "Inside the Medicine Chest" tour, which highlights mental health in the 19th century! There's the John Shaw Furniture Tour, a walking tour, and even a St. Anne's Cemetery Tour. More information on the tours and how to buy tickets can be found on their website.
The museum is generally open Tuesday through Saturdays from 12-5, with the last tour starting at 4. From January to March, they are only open for school and group tours.
The museum does charge an admission ($10 for adults, $5 for kids) but if you join the Hammond-Harwood House Association, you receive numerous benefits, including free tours at some levels. You can check out those different levels here.
Each Halloween, the Hammond Harwood House sponsors a Pumpkin Walk.
Update April 2019: I went to the Annapolis Cup over the weekend, and as we were walking by the Hammond Harwood House, they had the grounds set up for a reception/party of some kind. I snapped a few pictures and shot a little video!

In June of every year, Hammond Harwood House hosts the Secret Garden tour. It's their big annual fundraiser each year. It is a self directed tour of around 15 different gardens around Annapolis, and in 2016, they showcased the homes in Murray Hill. Each location had a docent present with garden descriptions on hand. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door. |
