Besides the benefits to my plants, controlling storm water runoff is important because eventually that water will end up in the Chesapeake Bay, River or Creeks in Annapolis. One of the things I did that was easy was install a rain barrel to collect the water from the downspouts, Then that water can be used to water your plants when rain is scarce.
You can direct your downspouts and gutters to drain into lawn, rain gardens and/or planted beds. Keep in mind to direct them away from the house as you don't want that water to affect your foundation and cause damage!
In your yard, you can plant ground covers around trees and on slopes to decrease erosion that may happen from rainwater. Even the hardscape you choose can help! You can use porous pavers set in sand, gravel or mulch.
